The idea of the conference was conceived by Timos Sellis, Paris Kanellakis and Yannis Ioannidis at SIGMOD/PODS 1994. Many years followed, after Paris had passed away and Yannis returned to Greece and put the idea in motion with Timos. General chair for the first HDMS was Timos Sellis, Organizing chair was Yannis Theodoridis, Program Committee chair was Yannis Ioannidis while Panos Chrysanthis was an enthusiastic and faithful supporter from the very beginning.
